The Yuma winter market
Park models and RV lots play by different rules
Yuma hosts roughly 90,000 winter visitors, and a large share of this market doesn't live in a stick-built house at all — it lives in park models and manufactured homes on resort and community lots.
Covers and awnings on those homes fall under Arizona's Office of Manufactured Housing, which regulates accessory structures separately from standard residential construction. Attachment, tie-downs and setbacks are not the same conversation as bolting a cover to a block wall.

What does a patio cover cost in Yuma?
Nationally, installed aluminum patio covers typically run about $18 to $55 per square foot. A 10×10 lattice cover often starts around $1,800, solid covers commonly land between $2,000 and $3,500, and insulated covers between $3,600 and $5,500. Alumawood or wood in this climate?
Aluminum wins on upkeep here. Yuma gets around 4,055 hours of sunshine a year, and that much UV is hard on wood finishes — cedar needs sealing on a schedule. Alumawood is embossed aluminum with a factory finish that resists chalking, fading and peeling, and termites have no interest in it. If you want real wood, we'll build it; we'll just be honest about the maintenance.
Do I need a permit for a patio cover?
Nearly all new attached covers and full-size structures require a permit, whether you're inside City of Yuma limits or out in unincorporated Yuma County. The county does list a possible permit exemption for small fabric shade structures under 200 square feet. Rules change, so confirm current requirements with the jurisdiction that covers your address — we prepare and handle the paperwork either way.
How much cooler is it under a cover?
